New Class of 2012 Kenan Fellows Announced

After a competitive application and interview process, new Kenan Fellows for the Class of 2012 have been selected. Later this month, these Fellows will join their Mentors in two locations across the state for introductory meetings, planning sessions and dinner.

With 47 members, this is the largest class of Fellows brought into the program in a single year. Public school teachers in every school district were eligible to apply, and teachers from all eight education regions were accepted into the program. These new Fellows represent schools from Buncombe County in the west to Craven County in the east. A total of 27 school districts are represented by this group. To date, the Kenan Fellows Program has served 175 outstanding K-12 public school teachers from across the content areas.

Our new class of Fellows will guide a wide range of projects. Project titles include:

  • Aviation Safety
  • Biotechnology in North Carolina
  • Green Our Schools!
  • Math and the Amazing Race
  • Solar Energy for Space Travel
  • Teachers Training Teachers

These projects are representative of scientific research currently going on in North Carolina. Mentors for the Fellows are from university research labs, community colleges, innovative industries and the NC Department of Public Instruction.
